GAME REPORT

23.06.2012
Hungary Dominant In Victory Over Israel

Hungary blew out Israel on Saturday for an impressive win in the EuroBasket Women Qualification Round.

Stefan Svitek's side hit the road and rolled to a 64-46 Group A victory with Alexandria Quigley's 15 points leading the scoring.

Center Dora Horti was also in fine fettle, pouring in 14 points and hauling in nine rebounds.

Hungary's win wasn't pretty as they made just one of 16 three-pointers and also sank a mere five of 15 free-throws.

But what the visitors did do well was get good shots closer to the basket and it showed as they made 28 of 48 attempts inside the arc.

Perhaps more crucially, Hungary dominated the boards, out-rebounding Israel, 46-27.

Hungary went in front to stay after Katalin Honti scored to knot the contest at 8-8 and then Quigley made a lay-up.

They outscored Israel 13-1 over the last 6:30 of the opening quarter for a 19-9 lead.

Svitek's side was in complete command by half-time, on top 38-14.

Quigley had 10 points and Horti eight at the break.

Israel never mounted a fightback in the second half.

They finished zero for nine from behind the arc.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Israel vs. Hungary

Hungary Head Coach Stefan Svitek
"It was important for us to start out well, I think we allowed only 14 points in the first half and that decided the game. It is very hard for a team to come back from that. We also got many offensive rebounds, that also made a big difference in the game."

Israel Head Coach Eli Rabi
"We don't have the luxury to not play not our best. I think that the girls do their best in every game. When you meet such a very good, aggressive and well prepared opponent, you get punished. We were not at our best today and our opponent did not leave us a chance."

Hungary player Alexandria Quigley
"I'm glad we started out strong on defense, we focused on ourselves and made the game easy."

Israel player Liron Cohen
"It wasn't pleasant tonight not as a fan and not as a player. We didn't play well. They opened a big gap and we couldn't come back. I am sorry we looked like that. We should learn from this and remember that we have five more games to play."
