Poland Work Hard To Stay On Track

Poland kept their EuroBasket Women qualification bid on track with an absolutely vital victory in Estonia, but had to come from behind to rack up a precious 65-58 success.

It had looked like the hosts may finally get off the mark with a first win of the summer towards the end of the third quarter when Valeria Kast gave them a 42-41 lead.

But, much to the anguish of the Estonian supporters, the superior depth of Poland was a telling factor in the last period as they prevailed to move to a healthy-looking 4-1 record.

Center Isabela Piekarska led the way for the visitors with a highly efficient shooting performance in the paint, which helped her register 16 points.

It was once again turnovers which proved to be the real downfall for Estonia, who spilled the ball 24 times against some impressive Polish defence which also held the home team to just seven points during the second quarter.

The win for coach Jaceck Winnicki and his players serves as a perfect tonic ahead of Saturday's crunch game with fellow contenders Montenegro.
