Montenegro Take It Out On Switzerland

12. Iva Perovanovic (Montenegro)
Center Iva Perovanovic had 12 points and nine rebounds in Montenegro's comfortable victory over Switzerland

There was only one way for Montenegro to forget about last weekend's comprehensive loss to neighbours Serbia, and that was to chalk up a big success against Switzerland in EuroBasket Women Qualification Round Group B.

With two wins to their name, the Swiss provided a potential banana skin for coach Miodrag Baletic and his team but they felt the full backlash of Montenegro's desire to make up for their mauling in Belgrade.

Montenegro came up with a real team effort as eleven different scorers contributed to an emphatic 69-39 success to rule out even the slightest notion of a nasty surprise.

Within just ten minutes, the home side had unloaded the frustration of their abject road trip in Serbia with a whirlwind 24-8 opening quarter.

Iva Perovanovic was the pick of an impressive bunch with 12 points from an efficient five-of-six floor shooting in addition to nine rebounds.

The victory took the host to five wins and they are now on the verge of making only the second major tournament in their history, having debuted last summer at EuroBasket Women in Poland.

Indeed they will be back on Polish soil this coming weekend when they will face a serious test against their main challengers for top spot in what looks more and more like a Group B decider.

COACH QUOTES

04.07.2012
Quotes Montenegro vs. Switzerland

Switzerland Head Coach Milenko Tomic
"I congratulate Montenegro on an excellent game and convincing win. This was a tough game for us in all elements. We did not withstand the pressure and the difference in quality in favour of Montenegro in all positions, was the decisive factor."

Montenegro Head Coach Miodrag Baletic
"In this game it was important to meet the demand of absolute motivation of all players, in which we succeeded. The players that have so far had less minutes played well and engaged with their desire to make a good game."

Switzerland player Karen Twehues
"Tough game for us, we played against much better opponents. This is a great experience for us, we gave our maximum, but Montenegro is a better team than us."

Montenegro player Jelena Culafic
"We expected a victory, but we feared that we would enter the game very relaxed after we had defeated them away. As time went on, we played better, but the good thing is that bench players were given a chance."
