GAME REPORT

07.07.2012
Swiss Roll Over For Hopeful Serbia

8. Milica Ivanovic (Serbia)
All twelve players scored for Serbia with Milica Ivanovic's 17 points being a team-high.

Outstanding defence was the foundation for Serbia to lock down and overpower Switzerland 88-45 as they continue piling the pressure on both Montenegro and Poland in an intense Group B.

The three-way race for those two precious spots now looks like it could go down to the wire after Marina Maljkovic and her team made no mistake on their travels to Fribourg.

Having opened up a six point first quarter advantage, a super 20-9 second period put the game to bed early and the longer the game went on for, the more rampant Serbia became.

They certainly saved the best until the last ten minutes when they really stepped on the gas.

It was a vibrant and powerful performance by the visitors who pounded the home team 44-22 on the glass and racked up a mammoth 21 assists to underline the confidence and belief which continues to flow now they have chalked up three straight wins.

All twelve Serbian players managed to rack up some points with veteran Ivanka Matic claiming a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Serbia host Poland on Wednesday and travel to Estonia in the final two games.

COACH QUOTES

07.07.2012
Quotes Switzerland vs. Serbia

Serbia coach Marina Maljkovic:
"I would like to congratulate the coach and team of Switzerland for the great job they do since a few years. No team came here to Fribourg not prepared."

Serbia player Milica Ivanovic:
"We are happy about the win. We are ready to play Poland and get the qualification for next year's EuroBasket Women."

Switzerland coach Milenko Tomic:
"We tried our best against a well-prepared and strong team of Serbia. Our girls are now tired after these two months of non-stop basketball. The three coming days off will help us to be ready to play a strong game in Poland."

Switzerland player Sarah Kershaw:
"It's hard for us to lose with so many points difference. All players of Serbia scored tonight and for us, only five. We need more players to be able to beat a team like Serbia."
