GAME REPORT

11.07.2012
Slovakians Win, Now Target First Place
6. Lucia Kupcikova (Slovak Republic)
Lucia Kupcikova and the Slovak Republic overcame a slow start in the Qualification Round to punch their ticket to France

The Slovak Republic punched their ticket to next year's EuroBasket women in France with a 66-51 victory at the Netherlands.

Ivan Vojtko's side won for the sixth time in seven games and can now clinch first place if they win their last game in Group C at home to Slovenia.

The Netherlands conjured up memories of their upset of Slovenia last week with a brilliant start on Wednesday against the Slovakians.

The Dutch opened up a 13-8 lead when Naomi Halman scored with a lay-up.

Lucia Kupcikova, who had a game-high 20 points, drilled a jumper to spark a 13-0 run that put Slovakia in front for good.

The visitors led by as many as 24 points before winning by 15.

COACH QUOTES

11.07.2012
Quotes Netherlands vs. Slovak Republic

Slovakia head coach Ivan Vojtko
"We needed a win with one point to qualify for EuroBasket 2013, we did that. It is always dangerous to play against a young, talented team like The Netherlands. We lost our concentration in the beginning ofthe third quarter, but we were able to stop their run."

Slovakia player Ivana Jalcova
"We wanted to go to EuroBasket and therefore we needed to be focused the whole game. We lost it a couple of minutes in the second half, but got it back in time. Now we have one game left and we are going to win that one as well."

Netherlands head coach Meindert van Veen
"We lost it completely in the second quarter. After the break we showed that we can play with them, so the problem was more mental than physical. How I feel about my 250th game as head coach of the Dutch Women Team? I rather had won..."

Netherlands player Tanya Broring
"We weren't sharp from the beginning. In the second half we were agressive and concentrated, but after we got within ten pioints we couldn't keep that up, unfortunately."
