GAME REPORT

20.06.2012
Swedes Pull Away From Bulgaria

Anna Barthold (Sweden)
Sweden secured their second win in a row at Bulgaria.

Sweden broke open a tight game in the third quarter and stormed to victory at Bulgaria for their second win in a row in the EuroBasket Women Qualification Round.

After suffering a narrow defeat at Romania in their opener and then knocking off world number five Spain at home on Sunday, the Swedes hit the road and won 80-60 in Pravetz.

On top 41-40 at half, Sweden poured in the first six points of the second half and ended up outscoring the Bulgarians 21-9 in the frame to take command for good.

In that early third-quarter burst, veteran forward Kadidja Andersson had four of the six points on jump shots and Frida Eldebrink a couple of free-throws.

Eldebrink entered the game as the Swede's leading scorer at 23 points per game.

She finished with a game-high 19 against Bulgaria.

Sweden coach Lars Johansson has another good guard on his hands in Stefanie Yderström.

The 22-year-old played almost 19 minutes and scored 11 points.

She was three of four from long range.

Jaklin Zlatanova had 18 points and eight rebounds for Bulgaria, who lost for the second time after falling at Spain on opening day in Group D.

Veteran power forward/center Vera Perostiyska had a game-high 13 rebounds to go with her nine points in a losing effort.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Bulgaria vs. Sweden

Sweden coach Lars Johansson:
"I am satisfied with this win. Both teams played a good first half offensively. Bulgaria shot very well. I think, we stepped up in the second half. Our intensive play in defense was the key for winning this game."

Bulgaria coach Jose Maria Buceta:
"We couldn't keep the good organization in offense that we had in the first half. It was difficult to score in the second half. We could not find a way to defend Sweden. We tried a lot of different things, but they had a really good day in shooting."

Bulgaria player Jaklin Zlatanova:
"We were a little bit tired in the second half. This is not an excuse, of course. Sweden shot great today, we were not expecting so good scoring from the Swedes. We were surprised. We should improve our game and think only of the next games. We will fight for our chances to the very end."
