Italy Leave It Late Against Finland

Italy saw off a spirited performance by Finland to clinch their third win in Group E of the EuroBasket Women Qualification Round.

The Azzurre trailed only briefly at the start of the game yet struggled to press home the advantage over the Finns until the fourth quarter when they outscored the visitors, 20-12.

They ultimately prevailed, 76-58.

The Italians' 23-year-old point guard Giorgia Sottana had 15 points and shooting guard Benedetta Bagnara 14 in the win.

Italy went in front to stay in the first quarter.

Behind 3-2, Nnena Wabara sparked an 11-2 run with a lay-up.

Finland stayed within striking distance for much of the encounter because of their veteran Taru Tuukkanen, one of the best players in the Qualification Round so far.

She had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Finns also earned numerous trips to the free-throw line, making 18 of 23.

Italy were an efficient 28 of 52 inside the arc.

The Italians did a good job of pressuring the Finns, causing them to turn the ball over 22 times while committing just 10 turnovers themselves.
