| 11 July 2012 EUROBASKET WOMEN QUALIFIERS | | Alexandria Quigley led Hungary with 20 points in the win that eliminated Israel from contention |
Hungary dominated Israel in the fourth quarter and prevailed 73-66 to take over sole possession of second place in Group A of the EuroBasket Women Qualification Round. The victory has left Hungary with five wins and just two defeats and pushed them one game clear of Saturday's opponents Ukraine. As Ukraine won the first encounter, the team that triumphs on Saturday will clinch second place and advance to the Final Round. Hungary, coached by Stefan Svitek, trailed Israel 53-50 early in the last quarter on Wednesday after a free-throw by Jennifer Fleischer but then went on a 9-1 run to seize command for good. After Shay Doron split two free-throws to make it 54-53 in favor of Israel, Nora Nagy-Bujdosó buried a jump shot. Alexandra Quigley then made back-to-back jumpers for a 59-54 Hungary lead. Israel got no closer than four points the rest of the way. Quigley led five players in double figures with 20 points. Hungary's Dora Horti had a game-high 11 rebounds to go with her 10 points. Liron Cohen finished with 19 points for Israel, who dropped to 3-4 and were eliminated from contention for a spot in next year's EuroBasket Women |
