The Slovak Republic blew out Slovenia 93-54 to clinch first place in EuroBasket Women Qualification Round Group C. Ivan Vojtko's side won for the seventh time in eight games to finish ahead of Lithuania (6-2). The Slovakians never trailed, storming into an 11-2 lead four minutes into the contest. They stretched the advantage to 20-7 with 2:12 still to go in the opening frame on a three-pointer by Ivana Jalcova. Slovenia, without injured star Maja Erkic, who averaged 10.7 points in her seven Qualification Round games, fought back with an 8-0 run to pull to within 20-15. Tina Trebec had four points in that spurt. On top 27-21 with 5:04 to go in the first half, the Slovak Republic scored 15 of the game's next 18 points for a 42-24 advantage and they cruised to victory. Timea Sujova had 16 points and Katarina Tetemondová 15 for the winners. Slovenia had a bright start to the Qualification Round, winning four of their first five games, but they lost their last three. |
