| 16.06.2012 EUROBASKET WOMEN QUALIFIERS Greece won their first game of the EuroBasket Women Qualification Round with ease on Saturday. With a cast of veterans and under the leadership of new coach Alekos Daglas, the Greeks romped to a 72-49 home victory against Finland. Zoi Dimitrakou led a balanced Greek scoring attack with 15 points. The hosts took a firm grip on proceedings from the off. After the Finns opened the scoring, Olga Chatzinikolaou knotted the game at 2-2 and Dimitra Kalentzou followed with a three-ball. Lay-ups by Pelagia Papamichail and Dimitrakou made it 9-2 for the home side. When Chatzinikolaou raced in for a lay-up, the lead grew to 15-2 and Finland were in trouble. By the end of the first quarter, the lead had ballooned to 20-7 and it only got worse in the second as the Greeks built a 40-18 lead by half-time. Finland, who began their campaign with a 113-54 drubbing of Luxembourg, never seriously threatened in the second half as they fell to 1-1. Taru Tuukkanen had 15 points for the Finns. |
