Germany remained in the thick of the fight for a top-two finish in Group D of the EuroBasket Women Qualification Round after claiming a big win over Bulgaria.

In the Sunday's game in Oberhausen, the hosts' Anne Breitreiner erupted for 26 points and Germany broke open a tight contest in the third quarter before recording a 77-56 victory.

Beaten heavily in midweek by Spain, the Germans bounced back to improve to 2-1 while Bulgaria slumped to a third consecutive setback.

The Bulgarians had their noses in front at 31-30 late in the first half after 1.95m power forward Vera Perostiyska scored with a lay-up.

Dorothea Richter answered with one of her own on a fast break for Germany and shooting guard Breitreiner followed with a jumper to put the home side on top, 34-31.

Perostiyska replied for Bulgaria with a jump shot, taking her points haul to 14, but Breitreiner was in her rhythm and nailed a three-ball at the other end for a 37-33 German lead.

The basket took her points tally to 15.

Germany scored four of the next six points and went to the changing rooms in front, 41-35.

After the restart, the Germans pressed home their advantage.

Katharina Fikiel started proceedings with a jumper on a fast break and Andreas Wagner's side then got a three-point play from Sarah Austmann.

On top by 11, Germany stayed in command the rest of the way.

Romy Bar had a game-high six steals to go with her eight points for Germany, who will now travel to Sweden to face Lars Johansson's team.

Bulgaria will go for their first at home to Romania.
