| 20.06.2012 EUROBASKET WOMEN QUALIFIERS | | Aliaksandra Tarasava scored 10 points as Belarus cruised to yet another victory. |
Belarus are looking very good bets to make it back to the EuroBasket Women after clinching a third win in as many Qualification Round games on Wednesday at the expense of Israel. The Group A contest was about as tight as it could be for the first 33 minutes with Belarus on top, 56-54. The hosts then reeled off seven unanswered points and ended up claiming a 69-61 victory. Anastasiya Verameyenka can do a lot of things to help her teams win games and one of them is shoot from long range. She started the decisive run with a three-pointer and Nataliya Trafimava and Aliaksandra Tarasava followed with baskets to make it 63-54. Israel got no closer than six points the rest of the way. Verameyenka was outstanding from behind the arc, nailing five of seven attempts. As a team, Belarus hit nine of 18 shots from long range. Veteran small forward Zhanna Haradzetskaya was two of three from behind the three-point line. Veterans Liron Cohen and Shay Doron led Israel with 17 and 16 points, respectively. In a sloppy encounter, Belarus had 21 turnovers and Israel 19. The Israelis are now 1-1, having opened their campaign with a 15-point home triumph over Ukraine. |
