GAME REPORT

27.06.2012
Poland Lower The Boom In Q4

Poland won for the third time in four EuroBasket Women Qualification Round games on Wednesday, beating hosts Switzerland 62-45.

The visitors had a real fight on their hands in the Group B encounter until the fourth quarter, when they put the clamps on the Swiss and held them to just five points.

Jacek Winnicki, the coach of Poland, watched his side score 20 points over the last 10 minutes as they recorded a win that has kept them on track for next year's Final Round in France.

Poland's 23-year-old Agnieszka Skobel had 18 points while Joanna Walich scored 13 and grabbed eight rebounds.

The 1.74m guard Weronika Idczak also came up big for Poland with 12 points, five assists and five boards.

Poland dominated the Swiss on the boards, out-rebounding them 38-23.

Switzerland fell to 1-3 with the defeat.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Switzerland vs. Poland

Marielle Giroud, Switzerland:
"Thanks also to our day off, we had worked hard to be ready to play against Poland. All went well for us the first 30 minutes. Then it was difficult for us to be able to fight until the end because of less rotations and we were very tired."

Agnieszka Skobel, Poland:
"We are very happy to finish the first four games with only one defeat. We have now a few days off which will help us to get ready for the next four games and achieve qualification for the Eurobasket in France."

Jacek Winnicki, Poland coach:
"We expected a hard game here in Switzerland with zone defense and an aggressive defense. We finished the first round [of games] and we will do all we can in order to finish the rest of the qualification with only winning games."

Milenko Tomic, Switzerland coach:
"I'm very proud of what my team showed tonight. Poland is a strong team, with bigger players and more experienced. These kinds of games help us to raise our level."
